All that Glitters is Gold -- Rhys Hoskins!

But only shooting stars break the mold! Smashmouth references aside I picked up 2 really nice cards for the Rhys Hoskins rookie card collection! Two shiny gold looking cards. Side note I recently had lunch with the wife and my brother in law at Two Stones Pub and that song came on the radio there. I am not a shy person and I totally sang it (I am tone deaf though I really can't sing but why would that stop me) Anyways onto what you really came to see!

I promise this card is not cut off. It was my scanner auto cropping or something. Either way it's number 1 out of 50! (not that I personally care but just in case someone wanted to know) I like the double sided face mask even though I know he was wearing it cause he broke his jaw the week before. Once he came back from injury last year he had a nice season, I think that short rest really helped him out despite getting hit in the face on a foul tip. Also, I had him on all 3 of my fantasy teams last year (1 championship, 1 last place and 1 lost in the playoffs) so no real correlation there but we can go with he caused the championship!

I know its a sticker auto but that ok. Card is still awesome. Always on the lookout for Hoskins rookie cards. Thankfully there is a lot of them out there. I'll have to take inventory of what I have. This isn't my lowest numbered auto but it's my first Chrome one!

Halladay in the Hall!

I was happy to see that Roy Halladay made the Hall of Fame. I was saddened to hear when he passed away in that plane crash. I had actually seen him a month or 2 before at a card show, he was there as a signer. If I recall correctly it was 100 dollars for a signature. Which I figured he'd be around Philly more since he had said more then once that he liked the town and I'd be able to get him to sign something cool another time. Unfortunately he passed away not too long later. Not to be too serious but thats what I remember. He was great to watch on the mound. A great pitcher and most definitely deserved to be in Cooperstown. Seemed like every year he was in the Cy Young conversation and you knew every 5th day he was bringing it. I saw him pitch in person a few times when he was with the Phillies. I remember the moment when he pitched the no-hitter against the Reds (I was in Atlantic City at the Tropicana watching in a bar) (was a good night!).

I'm not going to re-hash his numbers but he definitely passed the eye test for Hall of Fame.

I don't have a ton of cards of his. Some nice 2012 Five Star. He was a big part of that vaunted Phillies pitching staff of Lee, Hamels and Halladay. Home stands were quite fun when those 3 were going back to back to back.

Back from Vegas!

I am now back from a little vacation. I would say the Phillies invited me to be in on the Bryce Harper meeting but unfortunately that didn't happen. The Wife and I flew out of Baltimore on Sunday morning. We thankfully did not get delayed even though it was legit snowing. Just had to sit on the tarmac a bit longer for the people to de-ice the wings. Kind of important when flying so I get it. We still got into Vegas well before the Eagles game started. We had time to sit down for a nice lunch in Ceaser's Palace and get a seat at the massive sports book in Ceaser's. The screens there are legitimately large. The front row seating was free and first come first serve. The other rows were 150 a seat and you get 3 drinks and then they had some vip seats that were 350 a seat but you had open bar the whole time. It was pretty lively during the game.

Obviously I was not happy with the ending but I still had fun watching with that crowd. Lot of money flowing for betting. Literally every commercial break the lines changed and you could place fresh new bets on either team.

The Wife and I got roped into one of those time share presentations. Ended up working out. We did not buy a time share (super expensive for these ones) and with the free swag in my opinion it was worth it. We got 2 Free Buffets (at the Paris Hotel), 2 Free Tickets to the High Roller (pretty cool Ferris Wheel thing), 2 Free show tickets (saw Zombie Burlesque in Planet Hollywood, very funny) and 25 dollars in free slot play. (Turned that 25 bucks into 31 dollars, killed it!)

Doing that time share did save us a couple hundred bucks in stuff we were going to do anyway. Don't know if we would've picked that exact show but we were going to see something regardless. We were pleasantly surprised though.

Did a ton of walking which worked off the buffets, also side note, Southwest Airlines has free Wifi and movies that you can stream on their flights. Pretty awesome. Make sure your phone/ipad is charged before the flight!

Also..baseball cards.. still collecting and looking for the next big thing. Haven't made any huge purchases lately but always on the lookout!

This Hoskins I picked up at the last show I went too. I like the on-card auto and I'm a sucker for the Tek look. These cards look really sharp in person.

Thanks for reading, can't wait til Harper and/or Machado sign with the Phillies.

Howard Plate!

I was able to pick up a 2015 Topps Chrome Printing Plate. I do want all the Topps Chrome plates eventually. I try to pick them up when I see them and if the price is reasonable. The black ones look decent.

Will soon be starting my Ryan Howard card printing machine.

Just a quick post, Thanks for reading! Maybe the Phillies will sign someone over the weekend?

Shiny Atomic Hoskins!

I recently picked up a few more Hoskins rookies. I have a decent collection now of base rookies and a couple numbered ones and 2 autos!

I'm a big fan of the atomic look..

I grabbed these for about 8-10 dollars a piece. Haven't been able to find them cheaper in a while. Either way nice cards!
