Welcome to the 50s!

We have made it to the 1950's portion of the Mickey Mantle countdown!! I hope everyone is as excited as I am.

Here is the first entry:

As you can see its slabbed a solid 1! I still like it though! The 1959 set is very colorful and nice to look at. If I ever decide to go after a vintage set this is definitely a candidate for inclusion. I am noticing a trend with Mick's photos though. He is always looking longingly past the camera. What is he thinking about? Women, drinks or something existential? Inquiring minds want to know!

On another fun note, my new card case is officially hung up! I already filled it with cards and it looks great! (Will show it later of course) I'm still trying to get the order I like down and debating whether to turn some of the horizontal cards vertical to make some more room for other good stuff! Not a bad problem to have!

Thanks for reading! What's your favorite Mantle?

  1. I am down to my last half dozen 1959 topps cards. It was a thoroughly enjoyable set to build.

There is lots to like about the set.

It's a good looking design, with lots of stars.

As a Phils fan it is the last set with Richie Ashburn on a Phillies card and he is on a Hero Number (300). Robin Roberts is also among the Phils.

There are 3 Mantle, 4 Mays cards and 2 or 3 Aaron Cards, 3 Ernie Banks, 2 Musial. Bob Gibson RC. Roberto Clemente is on 2 SP cards.

The Phillies Team card is one of the harder to fine tm cards for some reason.

Nice Insert sets (Hilights, All-Stars, and the first rookie inserts set)
